Geography is either taught as part of a cross-curricular topic or as a discreet subject. In both cases we aim to ensure that each child’s previous experiences and knowledge is valued and used to promote their learning. We aim to use the environment around us and real life experiences in their education, as well as using secondary sources to explore places difficult or impossible to visit.
In the early years geography is centered around each child’s own home and school, broadening out as they grow to include the village and the surrounding area. As they move into the juniors this will be extended to the rest of the British Isles and the world beyond. At all points they will reflect on the impact humanity has on the world we live in and to consider what other forces have shaped our environment.
