The New Curriculum for Mathematics provides the core of mathematics at the school. There is a strong emphasis on mental arithmetic and on children developing as independent mathematicians.
The school uses a variety resources to teach Maths, including the Collins Mathematics scheme and online resources such as Education City. We encourage children to work practically and to choose their own, appropriate mathematical equipment to solve problems. ICT also plays a large part in the Mathematics curriculum from facilitating Mathematical understanding to assessing children’s Mathematical progress.
We aim to set up investigational situations and opportunities to help the children develop
mathematical thinking. We use problem solving to make work relevant to everyday life.
We have set targets for achievement at the end of every school year which we share with pupils and parents both to celebrate success and to indicate where further work is needed.
